On a Muroran Port cruise call, visitors can see Hakucho Bridge, the longest suspension bridge in eastern Japan, and the rounded horizon from Cape Chikyu (Chikyu Misaki), a 100 m-high sea cliff.
Muroran yakitori is a distinctive local soul food of pork and onion, not chicken, grilled over charcoal and eaten with a special sauce and mustard. Spicy Muroran curry ramen is also famous nationwide.
About 40 minutes by car or train from Muroran Port, Noboribetsu Jigokudani, where 10,000 tons of hot spring water gushes out daily, and the natural forest footbath at Oyunuma make an enjoyable day trip.
Time available at the destination after subtracting return travel.

This observation point stands on a magnificent 100-meter-high sheer cliff rising above the Pacific Ocean. Visitors can take in an impressive panorama where the horizon appears curved, alongside a white unmanned lighthouse.
The sea breeze can be strong, so bringing an extra layer is recommended.

Built in 1912 in the Meiji-era wooden Western-style architectural style, this is the oldest surviving wooden railway station building in Hokkaido. It is a nationally registered tangible cultural property and exhibits historic railway artifacts for free.
You can pick up tourist information pamphlets and have commemorative stamps stamped inside the historic station building.

The cape's name means 'seal rock' in the Ainu language. It offers a stunning view where steep, blue-green grassy hills meet the emerald sea.
It is about a 5-minute drive along the coastal road from Cape Chikyu.

From its summit at 200 m above sea level, this is Muroran’s premier observatory, with a 360-degree panoramic view of all of Muroran Port, Hakucho Bridge, the Pacific Ocean, and steelworks illuminated at night.
It is especially atmospheric to visit at dusk or at night when the light on the transmission tower at the summit comes on.

This is an ideal viewpoint for looking out over the graceful Hakucho Bridge, the largest suspension bridge in eastern Japan, spanning Muroran Bay, along with the blue sea and vast port industrial area.
At night, the wind-powered illumination of Hakucho Bridge appears alongside the factory night view.

Located on a hill at the northern end of Hakucho Bridge, this park offers the most three-dimensional views of the bridge and Muroran Port while walking along its grassy paths.
A path leads up the hill behind Roadside Station Mitara Muroran, and you can walk up.
With enough time in port, you can explore beyond the city. One-way times are approximate.

This enormous crater formed by an eruption of Mount Hiyori is 450 m in diameter. Visitors can see a dramatic, hellish scene of sulfurous steam and 80°C hot water gushing between gray-white rock walls.
You can safely walk along the wooden boardwalk, and the sulfur smell may be strong.

From the hot-spring district, visitors take a high-speed ropeway to the top of Mount Shiroyama to see around 100 Hokkaido brown bears. The ranch features a human-cage experience, where people enter an enclosure, and the Ainu Yukara Village.
Round-trip ropeway fare is included in the admission ticket, and you can also visit the Guttara Lake viewpoint at the summit.

This historical theme park recreates Edo-period highways, samurai residences, and ninja houses at full scale. It stages a glamorous oiran procession and thrilling ninja action shows.
The ninja and oiran shows run at scheduled times, so check the schedule first when entering.

This natural open-air footbath is a forest stream formed by hot-spring water flowing down from Oyunuma. Visitors can soak their feet in the stream and relax while enjoying the primeval forest.
Towels are not provided, so you must bring your own.

Located in central Noboribetsu Onsen, this restaurant serves seafood rice bowls with fresh scallops and sea urchin roe from seafood taken from a large in-store tank, as well as spicy Enma yakisoba.
There may be a wait at lunchtime, and the live fish is served freshly grilled.

This hall is in the center of Noboribetsu Onsen's main street. At set times, a gentle-faced statue of King Enma transforms into an angry demon in a dramatic Jigoku-no-Shinpan karakuri performance.
The karakuri transformation operates regularly every day from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

This ramen shop's signature dishes are Jigoku Enma ramen, with a selectable level of spiciness inspired by the red heat of Noboribetsu's Hell Valley, and rich miso ramen.
You can choose a gradually increasing spice level from 1-chome onward.

This shop serves rich, smooth soft-serve ice cream, handmade fermented cheese, and pudding made with fresh milk drawn that day at a clean dairy farm in Noboribetsu.
Ideal for a refreshing dairy treat after a hot spring bath.

This huge sulfur crater lake is 1 km around, with a surface temperature of 50°C and a bottom temperature of 130°C. Fog and steam rise over the dark gray-black sulfurous mud.
You can walk about 15 minutes along a path from Hell Valley or travel by car.
