Freeport cruise port (Lucayan Harbour) shares its docks with an industrial container port and has no walkable tourist attractions nearby. The main commercial area, Port Lucaya Marketplace, and the beach are about 20–25 minutes away by vehicle (about 16 km).
At the official taxi dispatcher in front of the Straw Market at the terminal exit, shared van taxis with 10–15 seats are available to Port Lucaya and Taino Beach. Fares are about 10–15 USD per person one way (about 20–30 USD round trip).
Every Wednesday evening at Smith's Point east of Taino Beach, the island's largest local festival features traditional Bahamian fried fish (Fish Fry), conch salad, barbecue, and live Caribbean music.
The Bahamian dollar (BSD) is pegged at a 1:1 value with the US dollar (USD), and US dollar cash is accepted at the same value throughout Grand Bahama Island at shops, taxis, markets, and restaurants.
